SESSION TOPICS
1. ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT & LEADERSHIP
In the face of the rapidly changing work environment, this session will touch on effective public sector leadership, organizational change, and restructuring the organization that has been impacted by repositioning and redevelopment. It is critical for the success of PHAs that its leadership and board members are on the same page to effective move the organization forward.
2. IS CHOICE NEIGHBORHOODS RIGHT FOR YOUR PHA?
Choice Neighborhoods is a U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) program that aims to revitalize distressed neighborhoods through a combination of public and private funding. This session will provide an overview of HUD’s Choice Neighborhoods (CN)’s planning and implementation grants and how your agency can obtain a competitive advantage seeking a CN grant.
3. HOTMA IS HERE
This HOTMA training will prepare your PHA staff and board for the new changes coming to the industry. We will cover Section 102 and 104 of HOTMA including the new definitions of income and assets, how to calculate student income, new requirements associated with EIV and verifications, and more. Participants will also learn how HOTMA changes may affect your Family Self-Sufficiency Program.
4. NSPIRE IS HERE
HUD has commenced Nspire inspections in 2024. This training module will provide PHAs with a basic foundation of the National Standards for the Physical Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE) inspections model and how it works within the LIPH and HCV programs.
5. STRATEGIC SUPPORTIVE SERVICES
Public housing is only as effective as its ability to deliver quality supportive services to its families. Understand the importance of providing services around disabilities, mental health, health & nutrition, substance abuse, education, financial literacy, internet connectivity, etc. and how to meet program performance metrics while doing so. Also, understand how to strategically obtain HUD and non-HUD resources for your families. This session also provides programmatic overview and strategy around YouthBuild, JobsPlus, Family Self Sufficiency and ROSS grant programs.
6. UNDERSTANDING “CASTE” – A structured course that uses Isabelle Wilkerson’s New York Times Best Seller to understand racism in the United States as an aspect of a caste system. This session will also draw parallels and connections to the underserved population being housed by Public Housing Authorities across the country.
7. BACK TO BASICS – An overview of HUD’s “Lead the Way” training for new and existing Commissioners. We also discuss common pitfalls and how Commissions can maximize their commitment to their communities. Back to Basics introduces the world of PHA oversight to new Commissioners, and provides a re-examination for existing and seasoned board members, particularly in an environment where PHAs are repositioning its assets and undertaking new development initiatives.
8. SUCCESSFUL VOUCHER MANAGEMENT – In an environment when PHAs are converting to PBV or PBRA platforms to administer subsidy, it is important to understand the management and compliance associated with your vouchers. This session takes a deep five into the HUD two-year tool and how to effective use it for the benefit of your agency.
