Description:

This strategic reposition retreat is designed for Public Housing Authority leadership staff and Board of Commissioners.  The retreat offers industry-leading professionals who deal with specific PHA topics that include leadership, RAD, low income housing tax credit calculations, compliance and industry-specific case studies from PHAs around the county.

Objectives:

By the end of this retreat, PHAs will better understand how to reposition its assets, culture and mindset to better serve existing- and future affordable housing families.

CEOs, Executive Directors, COOs, CFOs, Directors of Real Estate, Asset Managers, Commissioners, FSS Coordinators,
ROSS Coordinators, YouthBuild Directors and Resident Services Directors.

Cost:

Group Rate: $6,000.00 per PHA (up to six members), $750 for each additional attendee.

Individual Rate: $1,500.00

SESSION TOPICS


1. ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT & LEADERSHIP
In the face of the rapidly changing work environment, this session will touch on effective public sector leadership, organizational change, and restructuring the organization that has been impacted by repositioning and redevelopment.

2. FAIR HOUSING COMPLIANCE IN 2024
This session will focus on Fair Housing, particularly in the multi-family space. We will touch on marketing, application processing, property policies, reasonable accommodation and modifications, and assistance animals. This module is designed to help industry professionals understand what fair housing laws apply to hem and what they need to do to maintain compliance.

3. IS CHOICE NEIGHBORHOODS RIGHT FOR YOUR PHA?
This session will provide an overview of HUD’s Choice Neighborhoods (CN)’s planning and implementation grants. It will also provide case studies of previous successful applications.

4. HOTMA IS HERE
This HOTMA training will prepare your PHA staff and board for the new changes coming to the industry. We will cover Section 102 and 104 of HOTMA including the new definitions of income and assets, how to calculate student income, new requirements associated with EIV and verifications, and more. Participants will also learn how HOTMA changes may affect your Family Self-Sufficiency Program.

5. IS YOUR AUTHORITY NSPIRE READY?
HUD has commenced Nspire inspections in 2024. This training module will provide PHAs with a basic foundation of the National Standards for the Physical Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE) inspections model and how it works within the LIPH and HCV programs.

6. THE IMPORTANCE OF CASE MANAGEMENT & RESIDENT TRACKING TOOLS
Understand how the systems-based approach to case management and performance tracking will help you to maximize the services being offered to your families and improve your ability to compete for additional grants. Also, learn how to track and manage multiple funding streams of leverage and grant matching funds.

7. ASSESSING AND ADDRESSING TRAUMA IN PUBLIC HOUSING COMMUNITIES
Understand the importance of assessing and addressing trauma through community building and engagement. Explore the principles, strategies and practices associated with mitigating the impact of trauma in your public housing communities, for your families and PHA staff.

8. GREEN RESILIENT RETROFIT PROGRAM
The Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP) provides owners of HUD-assisted multifamily housing with capital funding to reduce carbon emissions, introduce renewable energy sources, improve utility efficiency, and make properties resilient against climate hazards. Learn more about the program and how your properties (RAD included) may qualify.

9. STRATEGIC SUPPORTIVE SERVICES
Public housing is only as effective as its ability to deliver quality supportive services to its families. Understand the importance of providing services around disabilities, mental health, health & nutrition, substance abuse, education, financial literacy, internet connectivity, etc. and how to meet program performance metrics while doing so. Also, understand how to strategically obtain HUD and non-HUD resources for your families.
